A-Level数学包括基础数学和进阶数学，在内容上基础数学和进阶数学有连续性，但这是A-Level的两门独立课程，学生可以单独选择其中一门，但中国学生一般会都选。数学的内容有四大模块：纯数学（pure mathematics）、统计数学（statistics）、机械数学（mechanics）、决策数学（decision mathematics）。
每一个数学模块又分为不同数量的单元：如
纯数学就分为C1、C2、C3、C4、FP1、FP2、FP3七个单元；
统计分为四个S1、S2、S3、S4四个单元；
机械数学分为M1-5五个单元；
决策数学分为D1、D2两个单元。
简单排列一下，就不难发现A-Level数学共有18个单元：
纯数学：C1、C2、C3、C4、FP1、FP2、FP3；
其他常选组合单元：M1、M2、M3、M4、M5、S1、S2、S3、S4、D1、D2。
注：C代表核心数学，FP是进阶数学缩写，M、S、D依次代表机械、统计、决策数学。
A-Level数学专业词汇其实不算多，约两百来个，但是其中不乏有些词汇容易搞混，今天小编带大家就来看看几组典型的易混淆词汇。
Show和Prove
这两个词也是学生经常会搞混的两个词，到底展示和证明有什么区别?
Show是to provide facts or information that make it clear that something is true, that something exists, or that something has happened.
Prove是to show that something is true by providing facts, information.
从表面看，show和prove并没有太大区别，然而，如果题目要求你prove,你必须提供严格的证明过程，运用定律或法则，如果题目要求你show,你则可以使用语言和图形配合区展示你的理论，要求上并没有prove那么严格。
Vertical和perpendicular
它们都有垂直的意思，到底有什么区别呢？
1）perpendicular 一般在使用时后面多数跟着介词 to，表达 "和XX" 垂直，或“构成直角”这样的描述
The z-axis is perpendicular to the plane. （be perpendicular to ... 句型）
It runs in a direction almost perpendicular to the east bank of the river.
2）vertical 这个词，用来形容“垂直的”相对于 horizontal用来形容“水平的”。一般都是直接加在名词之前，比如下面句子中物理学所说的“垂直加速度”、“水平加速度”
the acceleration in the vertical direction and the horizontal direction
但是，二者在与line相连时意义一致：vertical line和perpendicular line都表示“垂线”
Gradient 和 Tangent
Gradient指a slope or a degree of slopes, especially in a road or railway.所以gradient指坡度，斜度，在我们数学当中主要指斜率。
Tangent指straight line that touches the outsides of a curve but does not cut across it.所以tangent指我们所谓的切线。Tangent line有时也被叫做equation.很多学生再看到题目中求equation时都只求gradient而对tangent line不管不问。
Differentiation和Derivative
Differentiation是the mathematical process of obtaining the derivate of a function.所以differentiation是一种方法，是一种求derivative的方法。
Derivative是something that has developed or been produced from something else. 所以derivative是一个数，或是一个从原方程的衍生品。
